   
Adelaide welcomes the 13th World Tang Soo Do Championships
31st October to 2nd November, 2009
The International Tang Soo Do Federation hold a World Championship between member nations every two years and due to the support of the Adelaide Convention Tourism Authority, the South Australian Tourism Commission and local businesses the Adelaide Tang Soo Do Academy has been successful in securing this event for the first time in Adelaide-Australia.
This has provided us an opportunity not only to invite delegates from affiliated countries but also to advertise the City of Adelaide and South Australia more generally as a must see destination.
Thus the Championships will not only assist in promoting Tang Soo Do as a traditional martial art, they will also be promoting Adelaide as a host city for major sporting events of this type and South Australia as an event destination more generally.
The 13th World Tang Soo Do Championships will present the people of Adelaide with an opportunity to see and experience athletes from around the world.
It is a great honour and privilege for us to be hosting this event in Adelaide and to be representing Australia in our home nation.
Due to the profile of the event and the nations attending, the Adelaide Convention Centre has been secured as the host venue for the Championships.
It has been the intention of the event committee to involve as many businesses, community groups and students as possible.
Adelaide prides itself on accommodating a multicultural community and this event will give our residents an opportunity to see and support competitors from their countries origins.
To allow this to happen, Adelaide Tang Soo Do Academy has decided to operate a cost free event for those attending.
However, while attendance is free, we ask for a gold coin donation of those entering the Championships’ venue, with all proceeds going to “The Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital”.
Finally, the Championships and our organisation are directly targeting the needs of City-based students to access experiential learning/work experience opportunities.
This is via the association of Adelaide Tang Soo Do Academy with the School of Management at UniSA (City West Campus).
This has involved the creation of a practicum/placement opportunity for Tourism and Recreation & Sports Management students. Given the scale of organisation and administration required to stage the Championships, Adelaide Tang Soo Do Academy has been able to offer a range of possible placements to UniSA students
